My story

Jess suggested that maybe it was time to share my wee story with you guys!

Many of you see me now on the front desk tip tapping away, spinning yarns, laughing way too loud (sorry about that!) and generally consuming more coffee than I should!

When I say, I work for the best gym in town I do not say it lightly.

Some of you will know me from when I first started at Bodyfix waaaay back in 2011 when I was a long haired and young (OK well just younger than I am now lol) personal trainer.

I started in the industry with a real wellness approach to fitness and life in general. My style was always about combining the mind, body and soul to help people enhance their lives.

While I was at Bodyfix at Tuam Street, I was raising my young kids (who are now 11 and 13…..my youngest was 1 when I started at Bodyfix yikes!!)

I was also learning a HEAP about myself as well as the fitness industry.
So as you would expect my approach and what I became more interested in started to shift too.

I became incredibly fascinated as to why people did what they did. I was intrigued as to the beliefs and thoughts people had and how the body interpreted and presented this information.

This was when I started connecting with more and more people in the “alternative” health industry. Kinesologists, reflexologists, intuitive coaches, massage therapists, energy healers, yoga teachers, sound healers etc etc.

I loved learning more about how the western approach to health and wellbeing and the “alternative” could be blended together to help people.

And so after some time, I learnt and became a Reiki practitioner. I then went on to becoming an Indian Head Massage therapist and an Intuitive Life Coach.

We had built a home out in Pegasus, North Canterbury and an opportunity came up for me to work in a gym out in Rangiora.

It was a very bitter sweet moment, as I loved working at Bodyfix, but I was finding the travel tough with young kids and was already feeling like my days of being in the gym as a PT were dwindling fast as I started to do more and more reiki and coaching work.

The blessing of my time working in a couple of different gyms in Rangiora and Kaiapoi was that I got to see how the franchise model of gyms worked and gained a whole new appreciation for the owner operator model.

Early last year I was catching up with Moo and she mentioned an opportunity to come and work the front desk part time….how could I refuse!

I was working in Christchurch at Reflexable doing my reiki, coaching and Indian head massage, so it made sense to continue to work with like minded people like Moo and the team.

At the end of last year I decided to take some time away from my own “business” to do some further study in the area of mental health while at Bodyfix and as I write this I hope to hear soon if I have been accepted. This again, is another part that I want to add to my tool kit of being able to support others in a holistic way.

I just love coming to Bodyfix each day, sure it’s a madhouse at times LOL but the heart and soul of this place makes it one in a million.

So please feel free to chat with me anytime, as you can see my subject list is varied when it comes to health and wellbeing ……and we haven’t even started talking about my netflix and musical interests yet…..maybe that’s a story for another time LOL.

xx
