"NEVER UNDERESTIMATE YOURSELF"

HI, I’M SHANNON. I HAVE BEEN A PART OF RECREATE PERSONAL TRAINING FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS. FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN EXCITED AND PASSIONATE ABOUT HEALTH, FITNESS AND SPORTS, ESPECIALLY RUGBY.

I first thought seriously about personal training when I was finishing my Bachelor of Sport and Recreation degree at Lincoln University. After my first week working as a personal trainer I realised I had made the best decision for my career. I get a lot of fulfillment when I see people happy and achieving their goals. It’s a pretty amazing feeling going to “work” and loving it!

I have always been passionate about health and fitness and how good it makes you feel physically, but more so mentally. I have been in the gym scene since I was 14, and am extremely passionate about weight training. I have a lot of knowledge when it comes to lifting and different training methods, especially about what works and doesn’t work.

I know it isn’t easy to get fit or to get ‘in shape’ and it can be a very tough and challenging journey. Trust me I’ve been there.

I was diagnosed with compartment syndrome and popliteal artery entrapment syndrome (which basically meant I couldn’t run for longer than 5mins without excruciating pain) when I was 15 requiring surgery on both calves when I was 16 and again when I was 19.

I have also had both knees operated on and waiting to get my hip operated on! So I know how frustrating it can get when you get knocked off track by injuries and illness which are out of your control.

You must remember there are many ways to get fit and healthy without pavement bashing or running for hours on a treadmill!

Always willing to meet and help new people on their paths of becoming the best they can be.
