What do I live by

I was asked the other day “what do I live by” and this seemed like a loaded question… but it got me thinking about a speech I did at my old high school to the leavers get together. Below is an excerpt of my speech that I wanted to share with you.

What do I live by

Over time I have absorbed not only the information knowledge and skills but also come to realise my own values, culture and history more.

It leaves me with so many memories, experiences, sad times, happy times.  I have met some great people, met some not so great people, and learnt more than I actually realised.

If we look back at our younger years with regret, we have truly missed the point of this journey.

There are countless lessons and millions of thoughts the process of this life journey has taught us all.

I have made some big mistakes in my life, but taken responsibility and used them as a learning experience to help me grow.

No matter whether we went to University or not we will never be judged by what qualification we have or don’t have.

What I have learnt that is that we need to stay in touch with who we are, don’t crumble to peer pressure be your own person and remember the quality of your friendships is the measure that will matter way beyond anything.

Get the little things right:

Surround yourself with positive people, positivity attracts positivity, be courageous about meeting people, always be humble, be on time, treat others kindly, work hard, and go easy on our parents, learn from your mistakes and persevere.

As I have gotten older, I have gotten to know myself better.  Always, always be true to yourself. Never try to be what you are not. This is a recipe for disappointment and unhappiness. Back yourself, and be yourself and just remember it is okay to not know where or what you want to do.

We are at the start of a journey that is as yet undefined. Grab every opportunity with both hands and be bold, be brave and remember we are never too small or insignificant to make a difference.  We all have the power to choose where we want to go.
