Meet Mitchy, Personal Trainer at Bodyfix Gym in Christchurch

Since I was a little girl, my answer to the question ‘What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up?’ was always

‘To Be Fit & Healthy’ (quickly followed by ‘A Veterinarian’).

It’s just something that came naturally to me. Growing up, I didn’t understand how other people didn’t value their own Health & Fitness like I did. I wanted to change that.

I remember the first time I trialed for a sports team (in my Primary years). I didn’t make it and another friend of mine did. I was absolutely gutted & vowed then and there to never miss out again. So I trained harder and made the team every year following. There was one game I remember thinking

‘I’m not enjoying myself’,

I realised it was because I wasn’t as fit as id prefer;

It was too hard.

From that moment on, I’ve aimed to keep fit so I can enjoy what I do. Is that something that resonates with you?

I left school not having a clue what I wanted to do, so thought I might as well do something I love and I’d either find a career in it, or spend a few years doing what I enjoy.

I have now been involved in the fitness industry for 20 years from Personal Training, Group Fitness Instructing, Sports Team Conditioning & Coaching.

Fitness is a true passion of mine and I love I can share my passion to help transform the lives of others.

I believe your health is your number one priority to enable you to be able to do the things you love in life. My goal is to pass on my passion of Health & Fitness to my clients & help make it a part of their everyday life. Providing workouts to fit their busy lifestyle & goals. Helping them transform not just their bodies but their mindset too, to help them lead happier, healthier lives.

The hardest part is taking that first step.

I’ll be your accountability partner

I will motivate you to be the best you can be.

You bring your energy & you will get the results!

Have you heard the quote

‘If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you’?

Let me encourage that change in you.

Do you battle with consistency? Here’s my top 3 tips to help you keep consistent in your efforts:

  1. Schedule workout time in your diary, just as you would a work meeting.
  2. If you’re someone who gets home & can’t be bothered going back out again, prep your clothes & food the night before, go to bed earlier, get out of bed early & get to the gym before work (we have showers at the gym you know). Alternatively, go to the gym straight after work, then you can go home, rest, recover & get ready to do it all again.
  3. How much time do you have? Your workout time is like your eating – if it’s easy for you to follow, it will be sustainable & you’ll keep it up. I don’t know about you, but I don’t have time for 2hr workouts! Personally, my workouts are 20-30min. I love HIIT-style training to maximise results in a short space of time, or super-setting my weights – no time for mucking around. If you know me, you’ve probably heard of my ‘active recovery’ exercises too!
