Gerard Anderson

What was life like for you when you made the decision to join Bodyfix?

  • It was negative
  • I wasn’t happy with how I looked
  • I was on high blood pressure medication
  • I knew I was being lazy and not eating right

A stand out moment was when I went shopping for clothes and trying them on in the mirrors. Not having full-length mirrors at home I never saw a full view and when I did on this day I did not like it, I felt disgusting.

Why did you join our gym?

Mostly out of convenience. I knew I needed to join a gym and Bodyfix is one of the ones closest to me. But a lot of it was because when I walked in for the first time I was met with comfort, smiling faces saying Hello and making me feel welcome.  The smaller family-like gym vibes made me feel comfortable.

How has your fitness journey been so far at Bodyfix?

It has been mostly smooth sailing. Often in the past, I have not kept at things or stayed so motivated but with Bodyfix and my Personal Trainer Aaron I have. Making small goals to work towards my bigger goals have meant that I could make an achievement with each workout. My confidence has grown and my main goal of losing weight has happened.

Have you been involved with a Personal Trainer?

Yes, Aaron Shaskey. He has helped me stay motivated and accountable. When I joined Bodyfix I was given a free consult with a Personal Trainer and I honestly thought that I wouldn’t follow through with any more after. After meeting with Aaron this changed; he gave me confidence on the equipment around the gym so even when I was not seeing him I was able to come down and keep on toward my goal of losing weight.

Do you take part in our Group Fitness classes and events and how have you found them?

Yes I have tried 3, I like them, you build a group of buddies, who come to the same classes, check-in with you and it’s nice having people around who know your name and are working out with you. I have made friends in the club and we meet outside of classes now too, to work out together or go for runs up Rapaki Track.

Rapaki Run Club

What has been your favourite part of being a member of Bodyfix?

Having a place to come to. Where I feel comfortable and at home. I like the social side of this club especially through Myzone, seeing them on the screens and then connecting through the app, following and supporting peoples progress and them doing the same in return.

How has your life changed since joining Bodyfix?

Everyone here is so positive and motivating, I have become so too. My confidence has grown. Even my workmates have noticed how much more of a positive thinker I am. And told me so!

What changes have you seen in your physical and mental health?

When I began this journey with Bodyfix I was on medication for my blood pressure, not long in I was able to reduce the amount I was taking. Recently again I started feeling light-headed during my training sessions.

My blood pressure had lowered even further and this meant I was able to stop taking any blood pressure medication entirely!!

-My usual pharmacy even noticed that I wasn’t needing that usual prescription, I won’t forget what he told me, That more often than not when you take medication for high blood pressure, you often end up staying on it. For me, this means more than just losing weight and it really makes me happy that I have beaten that odd and improved my health immensely.

What would you say to someone thinking about joining Bodyfix?

Just do it.

Don’t procrastinate.

Give it go.

Try it, wing it.

Everyone will make you feel at home.

You won’t regret it.
