In winter it is easy to pile on the weight, reaching for ALL OF THE CARBS with those warm comforting meals. Having that extra glass of red wine as you sit by the fireplace on a cold night. Indulging that notion of wanting to EAT EVERYTHING insight because you are cold.  At Bodyfix Gym we believe in balance, so we want to share a few of our tips with you. Including how to get your hands on our very own Winter Warmers Recipe E-Book.

Eat Clean Stay Fit eat the burgerHere at BodyFix Gym Christchurch, we know that life is crazy. Sometimes you have that perfect, magazine-worthy, nutritionally packed breakfast complete with warm lemon water and sometimes it’s a coffee to go and piece of the banana cake Caro brought in for the staffroom yesterday.

Just kidding banana cake doesn’t last that long around here!

But you get the picture. Sometimes it just doesn’t go your way. So what do you do when it comes to eating right? When there are so many ‘diets’ detoxes and eating challenges out there?

First off, diets usually consist of cutting food groups out completely or drastically lowering them. That’s not healthy. You need carbs, fats, sugars, grains, starches, minerals, vitamins.

What is also not healthy is the mindset of things being bad for you, its all in moderation. Carbs aren’t bad for you, sometimes the portioning is. Sugar isn’t bad for you, but how many times in a day are you consuming it? Fats, What ones are you eating and avoiding? Do you catch our drift?

So what can you do to eat better?

Goal Weight Healthy

Be aware of what you’re eating – Could you make a different choice, a more nutrient-filled alternative?

Be mindful of how much you are eating – Could you change your portion size? Fill up on the veggies and protein so you aren’t starving when it comes to the desert and can enjoy/savour the sweet treat?

Create a balance of in VS out – Make sure that you are accounting for how you will burn the calories you have consumed, or are going to consume. Trackers like My Fitness Pal are great for helping you keep on track.

Try counting your calories for the week instead of every day – This article from The Healthy Way explains the pros of this, ‘Calorie Cycling’. It means if you eat to your calories for the week, having a cheat meal or extra snack on Friday won’t matter as long as you still come in on your calories for the rest of the week, maybe fill up on something with a lower calorie to BALANCE it on Wednesday

We believe in balance
