chronic fatigue in bed feature imageSo you are tired, dog tired, and all you want to do is pull the covers up over your face and cocoon yourself in that warm, cuddly spot for the rest of the day. Unfortunately, for the vast majority of us. Hibernating is not an option, with kids, work, and everyday life on the hamster wheel, it is important to create some time for yourself and avoid that the trip to the looney bin :).

With that in mind here are our 6 tips on how to chill out, create space and combat chronic fatigue and adrenal fatigue.

1. Take a look at your diet.

Take a look at the pantry and have you at what you are eating? Sugar and caffeine tend to give you an instant high, the trouble is the low can be brutal. When your suffering from fatigue its best to avoid processed foods and high sugar snacks/foods. Digesting these foods can put stress on your body when it is already tired. Try adding extra greens or fat to your meal, rather than sugar, to fill yourself up, so you’re not circling the pantry come 9 pm. When in doubt fill your plate up with lots of greens, coloured vegetables and quality protein and less white and yellow stuff.

2. Support Energy with Nutritional Supplements

Vitamins A, E, C, CoQ10, iodine & B12 may be helpful in supporting against symptoms of fatigue. There are a number of herbal remedies including Echinacea, garlic, ginseng, evening primrose oil?  Popping down to The Herbal Dispensary Place down Hills Road, Sydenham Pharmacy in the Colombo or Apothecary down at the Tannery to get sound nutritional advice.

3. Catch some zzz's

Getting 8 hours of quality sleep can make a HUGE difference to your energy levels. Did you know your bodies cortisol levels start to rise after 10:30 pm making it hard for you to get to sleep? Have you ever had one of those nights when you cannot get to sleep until 1 am - it could be cortisol - which is the same brain chemicals that wake you up in the morning. Try heading toward bed at 10 pm, lights out by 10:30. That way you can wake up with the sun at 6:30 and create some "me time" in the morning to relax, and stare into your coffee cup, or come and meet us for a morning class.

4. Relaxation & Stress Management

A little yoga can go a long way. Create some "me time" in your week to switch off, chill out and clear your mind. Taking some time to breathe, focus on one thing, just your body and your breath can assist in reducing stress. We recommend a yoga or pilates class which can be catered to your skin level.
